Like the other New England states, Connecticut’s rivers and streams range from babbling brooks to large rivers that serve as transportation and recreation hubs. In fact, the Connecticut River is the largest river in New England. For such a small state, Connecticut is home to several wild and scenic rivers, rich with historical, recreational, and scenic resources. Connecticut boasts 5,828 miles of rivers and streams, of which approximately 140 miles are designated as wild and scenic—about 2.4% of the state’s river miles.
