Designated Reach: June 19, 1992. From the confluence of the South and North Forks downsteam to the boundary of the Ventana Wilderness. The South Fork and the North Fork from their headwaters to their confluence.

The natural sulfur hot spring, the redwood riparian environment and the yearlong water flows provide outstanding opportunities for primitive camping, swimming, fishing, picnicking and nature study. There is abundant, rapid-flowing water, with pools, springs and occasional waterfalls; a diverse tree canopy, including redwoods; and a combination of scenic features uncommon to central southern California.
