With the grandeur of Alaska's Wrangell Mountains in the distance and a variety of whitewater on the river, the Gulkana is an outstanding recreation resource. The Gulkana offers remarkable opportunities for seeing moose, waterfowl, bald eagle, and bear. Salmon runs peak from mid-June to late July and floaters share the lower stretches with fishermen.
